[nagdu] clarification on religious exemptions

Marianne,

this is incorrect. A church can exclude a guide dog because they feel like
it. It is the seperation of church and state, which is a fundamental
liberty this country is founded on. they don't have to give any reason.

Now if the church has a policy of how they view guide/service dogs, that is
entirely their business and is not contingent on any laws. Of course this
is exempting the situations previously discussed...a room being rented, day
care, food pantry etc.

I believe the answer to that question is no. Churches can't just
discriminate because they want. I believe it has to be part of the
religious beliefs. We have discussed Muslims and dogs in the past and
they may not allow dogs in the Mosque because of religious beliefs but
a Catholic church cannot deny access because the priest doesn't like
dogs since the CatholicChurch does not say anything about dogs as part
of their beliefs.
