[nagdu] age of guide dog maturity

Hello,
It really depends on the breed and the individual dog. My dog is only sixteen months. I am training him on my own, and he is an Akita, and I do not think he is ready to be released as a guide. He still has distraction issues, and just that teenage dog qualities about him.

However, I know that dog guide schools are a bit more strict that I probably am about their training, and all of my dog’s traiing is experiential rather than structured.

So in a nutshell, it depends on the breed and the dog.

Hope this helps a little.
