Hi I have heard of dogs going out in 17 months and there been different thoughts on that. One of the dogs was ready and another was not so I believe it comes back on the dog.

I had one at 26 months that wasn't as ready as my 19 months. This is a hard question as each dog grows and learns at different times and ages. If the dog is more active and full of life they may not be as ready to be a guide dog. I do know dogs who are full of life who enjoy their work early in their life. Dogs some just enjoy the work and learn faster and willing to please and are full of life and if they have a way to get the full play time they are willing to work earlier then some dogs. I know that this is not a full answer but I think it is too early but it is up to you and the dog can you work and get what you need in a partnership of guide work.

Louise and Princess Kiara who traveled home at 19 months and have got through it but the dog could have been older

Subject: [nagdu] age of guide dog maturity

Hi,
I have a question: my guide dog is only 15 months.
I thought that she was a year; but she isn’t.
Is 15 months to young for a dog to be released as a guide dog?
I got my dog from Pilot.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
John Sanders
