[nagdu] Theft prevention WAS Re: restaurants and cafes

Hi John:

First, the command is down, not lay. Molly doesn't know what lay means.
She was taught to respond to the command down. When I go out to eat I
always ask if there are chairs instead of booths. In a chair, you can do as
you did on class and have her on a short leash next to the chair. How did
she manage to get out from under the table in the first place? If you put
the leash under your leg, she can't get away from you. When you are seated
in a booth put Molly as close to you as possible. Then sit on the leash and
remember to keep it short. This will prevent her from wandering off. It
sounds like Molly needs more obedience. Are you still doing obedience with
her every day as the school recommends? I know this is your first dog and
you have only had Molly for a few months but, you need to get her under
control now before she decides it is more fun to play than work. It is very
important that Molly knows you are her master and she must obey you. I
strongly recommend that you call Pilot and ask for a refresher course. You
seem to have forgotten a lot of what you were taught on class.

Sandra and Eva.

Hi,
I have a question: when I was eating in a restaurant with my parents one
evening; Mollie started to sniff around and started to walk around.
We were sitting at a booth.
I did the following:
1. Gave her a leash correction and gave her the command"Mollie lay!".
That didn't work.
2. I gave the command "Mollie come" and that didn't work either.
she is only 18 months.
How should I go about fixing this?
I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
John Sanders

Some dogs will go off with anybody it seems. That always scares me a bit.
Others will hardly let you out of their sight. Both extremes are terrine.
