I haven't owned any dobies as others have, but I trained several
Dobies and Min Pins when I trained shelter dogs.
Dobies were bred to be guard dogs, not hunting dogs. Could you train
'em to hunt? Probably. They're very obedient and easily trained, but
they typically have a much lower prey drive than
retrievers and terriors.

Min Pins are the dogs who are used for hunting vermin. They have a
higher prey drive than Dobies, and act much more like terriors. When I
trained Min Pins, they were highly motivated by balls, moving toys,
and soft toys, whereas the Dobies were more than content with verbal
praise or food reinforcement.
