Tracy,
I think you've taken appropriate steps to ensure that Ben can eat and
process his food effectively.
You might want to consider giving him digestive enzymes as well. As
you already know, older dogs can have a hard time of digesting food
and need some extra help. Twin Labs is the brand I used with the
Golden Guy when I switched his diet. You can buy them off Amazon.
