Hi Scott, my dogs have been able to be wherever I could be.
There are times when my husband had surgeries where I couldn't go
with or without my dog. I could not go into the room where he
was given anesthesia, nor the recovery room. But I stayed in his
room, both on the regular ward and when they had to move him to
CCU. In 2009 when he had his pulmonary embolysm, I was allowed
to stay with him in ICU. I chose not to have my dog with me,
because I did not want to leave his side, even to take my dog to
park. He came very close to dying and I just needed my dog to be
in a safe place so that I could totally concentrate on what my
husband needed. But they would have let him stay with me if I
wanted him. Eventually toward the end of his time there, I did
kind of want him with me, but I had no transportation to get him.
I didn't have any issues at all. Recently his heart went into
afib, and I got to be with him in the ER. They were going to
have to shock his heart back into rhythm, and both Nova and I
would have had to leave the room for that time, but his heart
started back into normal rhythm, so we didn't have to leave him.
Hope this helps. Debby and Nova
