Well, catnip is used just to make cats feel good.  It doesn't 
hurt them, and they deserve a little fun, sometimes.  It's pretty 
funny watching a cat after it has had catnip.

My sister-in-law had 14 cats.  They just set up the cat bowls in 
a row, and the cats each went to a bowl.  For our two dogs, each 
bowl is located in a different place, and the two know which is 
which.  They do check out each other's bowls after they have 
finished eating, but since mostly they get the same food, it's 
not really a problem.

How to tell cats apart: well, cats are different sizes, and have 
different kinds of hair.  They also have different sounding meows 
even and different-sounding purs.  I guess you just have to touch 
them and be with them, and pretty soon you would be able to tell 
them apart.    Debby
