[NAGDU] leader dog for the blind denile

Maybe this is just a small town thing or something, but I didn't know the
street names as close as a block from here just until a couple of years ago.
My husband, who has lived here all his life, doesn't know the street names,
except for the really main ones.

Directions here go something like this...

Across the street from where the old Wal-Mart used to be.

The North side of the square. The square is the square of streets that go
around the courthouse, which is always the center of downtown in a tiny
town.

It's by Joe's Shoe repair, up another block and across the street, by
Betty's Hair Fixins.

Seriously, no one uses street names or numbers to give directions here. I'd
be up a creek if I went to a guide dog school. Here I know where things are
by landmarks, counting blocks or using known locations as reference points.
I know the courthouse is west right after I cross the first traffic lighted
intersection. I've done that route thousands and thousands of times and I
can't tell you what half the street names are that I cross to get there. It
is simply information that I don't need or really want.

When I was at pilot they asked me what street was I on, my reply was I have
no clue.
Also said I asked if I could use the gps where they said no.
I also shared for only being there for two weeks I wasn't going to worry
about the street I was on.
They asked me if the streets had names on them at home.
My reply was, well now, the last time I was home they did, sure hope I have
the same again when I get home again.
Yes we get out there and walk.
We don't do much down town, don't have much to go to.
We still get out for walks though.
