[NAGDU] [nagdu] Preferential Treatment was: Blanket Prosciption Against Advance Notice

I absolutely agree with you that it is very important to be polite when declining offers of assistance. The only part where I disagree is if somebody is grabbing my body. I shouldn't have to be polite about that, simply because a person without a disability asking for directions would not be bottling manipulated. I usually play Italy ask the person to remove their hands once, and then I get loud. My voice can be a weapon, because it is loud and draws attention. And as for the special treatment, it's up to us to be polite and understand that companies want to make life easier for us and for themselves. As an example, I used to travel frequently with a bus company that always set aside an extra seat for my guide dog. I frequently told them that I didn't require the extra seat, and in fact I would prefer if they didn't leave that seat empty. After a couple of times going back and forth with this the compromise was that if possible we would sit in a single seat. So, it was up to me to
politely advocate for myself. I simply stated that I myself and my particular guide dog did not require another seat. Another guide dog team might require an extra seat, and that's okay. It's all up to us to be polite and courteous and thankful for offers of assistance even if we don't require it. We can politely decline offers of assistance and still maintain our dignity and autonomy.
