[NAGDU] picking up after dog

Hi Deanna,
Well, I don’t know what the schools are doing across the board anymore about touching the dogs.

My hubby, Mark, just came home last April with a shepherd from Pilot, and she definitely didn’t like being touched at first, but now is fine. My dog from Gallant hearts wasn’t used to it either, but within two days of working with her, she, too, was fine, as well as fine with going on a short leash. Previous to me, she’d been releived on a flexi leash, of all things! You can imagine how much of a nightmare this was for me, or anyone who is a total!! I explained this to the trainer and I think now he doesn’t use the flexi anymore for potty breaks!! His heart was in the right place, allowing the dog to feel like it had freedom to wander and pick a spot, but.. yeah.. really!! Not practical for real life!

But, I recently found out that the puppy raisers are discouraged from touching them while they relieve. I am not sure if that was a recent change, or if it's always been that way. Personally, I think it would be good to get them accustomed to this when they are young, because my boy didn't like it all when I first started it. But, he is a lot better now with being touched.
