[NAGDU] Pet insurance

All,
I also have pet insurance and have found it very useful. It's not meant to
cover routine, preventative care. Instead, it's a safety net in case
anything major happens to your dog. It's something you hope you won't
actually recoup all your costs from, kind of like home insurance. When my
retired guide got cancer, our pet insurance payed thousands of dollars for
his care. My current guide takes medication every month for urinary
incontinence. The medicine isn't that expensive, but my insurance pays for
it which is nice. I know if something ever happens to him, money will not
even be a consideration for me when deciding on the best course of action
for his care. Yes, I can and do save money each month for emergencies, but
I'd personally rather spend a set amount every month than be hit with
several thousand dollars all at once by surprise.

I use Healthy Paws pet insurance. All I have to do to submit a claim is
upload the receipt and a copy of the doctor's notes, and they send me a
check. I have never had to fight with them over a denied claim. You can
choose from three different levels for your annual deductible and 3 levels
for the reimbursement rate, and your monthly premium depends on those
factors as well as the age and breed of your dog. I'd guess the premiums can
range from about $35 to $60 a month. One important consideration is that pet
insurances in general will not cover any pre-existing conditions. Some plans
cover a set amount for each procedure, while others like Healthy Paws
reimburse you for whatever your vet charges.

I don't know if schools like GDB will continue to pay for vet care after a
dog has retired. If not, insurance may be a good option. Hope this helps!

Alysha

Peter,

I was considering the ASPCA because your can vary the monthly premium
depending on the deductible and other items you chose compared to Trueperium
(Spelling). I haven't made a decision yet. Can you share what pet insurance
you chose?Q

That was $8,000. Or was it 10... Six months later, in the front yard
running back to the house, she rounded a corner, and tripped herself on the
edge of the path, breaking the other leg!

the plate from the second leg. She suddenly became a really happy girl.
Thank God we insured when we did, or we'd have been in 20k or more by now.
It is very worth it. As I put it, we have seven insured legs in our family!
