As far as I can tell, assistance dog is the ADI term for service dog.
So some people refer to service dogs as assistance dogs. Some people
also use the term "assistance dog" to mean any dog that performs tasks
to mitigate a disability, but use "service dog" to refer to either 1:
non-guiding service dogs or 2: dogs that perform mobility tasks.
It's really confusing sometimes, and I wish people would stick to the
ADA definition of service dog, because it's the only one that legally
matters.
