[NAGDU] Apprentice Instructor

Hi all,

Great question! I don't think driving is an essential job function.
Isn't that the correct terminology? Anyway, you don't need to drive a
car to train a dog or work with a student.

I appreciate what Julie wrote about keeping her cane out when working
with a new guide dog team. This would be essential in the street, and
it's what I noticed some travel instructors doing at the Colorado
Center. Sometimes they would stand next to us and put their canes out
around us to get a clearer picture of what we were finding. It would
be necessary to anticipate, and honestly, I wonder if beyond typical
anticipation, any eye sight would work better in the street? I mean,
if a car is driving too quickly at the wrong time or in the wrong
place, then it can come out of nowhere, and anyone, blind or sighted,
can miss it.

It would be essential that the blind trainer know the area very well,
like the back of their hand. Then they would know where the more
tricky streets are. But I have no doubt there should be blind guide
dog instructors. I would think it a priveledge to work with one as
they would know what I need in a dog even better than a sighted
trainer. <div id="DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2"><br />
