Thank you so much for the lovely advice.  I was leaning toward 
bringing him anyway, because he is genuinely extremely helpful to 
me, and he's not an embarrassment for me to hide.  Michael, you 
are absolutely right in that it has a lot to do with my  
confidence level.  He is my very first guide, and we've only been 
working together since September.  I'm still learning the ropes.

Thanks for emailing the list.  You chose to use a guide dog to 
improve your
mobility in your life.  If you are committed to using a guide dog 
then you
should by all means use your dog wherever you go.  Your guide is 
a
"reasonable accommodation" and is not a reason for refusing to 
hire you.
Your dog can be used by you to educate prospective employers 
about how
competent you are, but they should not be judging you on whether 
you are
blind or not.  Nor should they be judging you on whether you use 
a guide dog
or not.

From reading your email my impression is that this is really 
about your
confidence.  That is under your control.

Go get em at the hiring event and come back and tell us that you 
got the
job.

Hi, all! I'm a brand-new guide dog handler (The clueless nature 
of this
question should have given that away!), and I just had a quick 
question
about bringing a guide to a hiring event.  I have a recruiting 
mixer tonight
for middle-school teaching positions.
It's going to be very crowded and overwhelming, because it's in 
one of those
big, open-plan, co-working spaces.  Anyway, I'm conflicted.  It's 
a lousy
environment for guidework, but, at the same time, I feel any 
potential
employer needs to know I have a guide and see how well-behaved 
and
disciplined he is.  I currently work in a school and everyone 
there is
accepting of Nigel, but this school would be a new ball game, and 
I want to
make sure I'm making a good impression while still being frank 
about my
mobility tools.  What should I do? Should I bring Nigel, or just 
use a cane
and tell them about Nigel?
