Jessica,

A municipality such as Denver is a Title II entity. As such, they are required by the ADA to modify their policies, practices, and procedures to allow an individual access. This includes modifying their ban on specific breeds. As Vice President Hingson stated, though, this applies to service dogs only and not to dogs in training.

Fraternally yours,
Marion

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise expectations because low expectations create barriers between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want! Blindness is not what holds you back.

Hello!

I am blind and have a guide dog from Guide Dogs for The Blind. My fiancé has multiple disabilities and is owner training his English bulldog/Pit mix as his service dog. We live in Texas but travel to Denver quite a bit. We have been made aware of the breed specific legislation/Pit bull ban in Denver. I reached out to an advocacy group and they believed you all were working on something related to this type of issue. Is it true? If so, can you tell me what you all are doing/what’s going on?

Thanks,
Jessica Naert
