Hi Cindy,
Yes I'm Deafblind. Also with balance issues so I have to really REALLY! Trust someone before I will let them take me somewhere without my dog. I was not self-employed until recently and my boss would send someone else if people client in question didn't want my dog in their house.
I do have a dog training business and so it's fine to take my dog and I do crate her with my portable tent if need but we are in the same room and she can get out if I ask her to.
I have not run across any situations like Marsha described, yet.
It's a very personal way of doing things.

You have a hearing loss, too, don't you?It is just another one of those things, I think, that requires you to do the thing that, in the end, is going to work best for you and all concerned, including your dog. I can't remember what you do, but have you run into situations such as Marsha described?

I don't have to justify it, and if I had someone coming to do work in my home who wanted to bring their small child, I'd find another person to do the work.

>> Hello all. I'll be starting my home training in early February, just after Washington Seminar. I'm hoping to see some of you there by the way. As for my question, due to the nature of the work that I do, I travel frequently to the private homes of consumers I work with. What are my rights and the rights of the customers in a situation such as this? For example, if we were to meet in a public place, such as a library or place of work, there is no issue. However, if the customer doesn't want a dog, guide or otherwise in their home, what is a solution? I'm certainly no attorney, but my initial guess would be that the person has the right to refuse a guide dog in their own private home regardless of whether it's for training purposes or a personal visit. However, I also would like to get some positive discussion going here when it comes to this situation, which i know will come up.
