[NAGDU] Finding a trash can WAS Re: Relieving in the City

Well, Dave, I thought I was going to be smart and efficient and all that, and put my dog's poop in his pouch so I didn't have to carry it. Well, with him, that wasn't such a good idea. He kept looking around behind him like he was wondering why he kept smelling his poop and it became a real distraction, so that was the last time I tried that. Interesting that it doesn't bother your dog to carry it, or maybe you've a better bag. When I got to the vet that day, the vet even commented that that would upset a dog as they would think they had poop on them somewhere or something.

I, too, trained Claire Rose to find trash cans and I bought some canvas straps with a spring snap clip. I put one on on her harness, so I don't have to carry it around. When I close the poop bag, I twist it around and make a loop like you would with a string and slip it onto the clip.
Some stores have trash receptacles, but I try to have her find one outside so it doesn't stink up an office or a store.

I taught Mitzi to find the trash. Sometimes the little dear would find a trash can or dumpster and go nearby, then show me again so I could toss the bag. Still working on that with Loki, mostly because the need doesn't come up often. If he goes outside the yard, it's usually on the stretch of our route where there isn't a trash can or dumpster to find, so I get to carry it home. That happened more when he was younger, before he was guiding, so I had the fun of managing leash, cane and bag, trying to pretend there was nothing undignified about it. /lol/
