Hello Brenda and all, first, Brenda, my condolences for your loss. Now, regarding the information you're wanting. I am currently with my second guy dog. He is from guiding eyes for the blind. My first also from guiding eyes for the blind was a yellow lab. Guiding eyes is a wonderful school. It is one of the top in the country. The thing that I like best about them, is there graduate support after you come home. If it anytime you are having issues with your dog, you can always call the school and either get assistance over the phone or a field rep can come out and work with you and your dog in your home community. Like many other guide dog schools in the country, guiding eyes for the blind has shortened their training programs. When I went to get my first dog, the program was four weeks long. When I went to get cash I was there for 21 days. The class sizes now are much smaller. This allows for students to get more individualized training to meet their specific needs. Once you have been with your guide dog for two years, you can apply for ownership. I personally have never done this. However, it is an option. Good luck on your quest to find a new school. Looking forward to hearing updates about your adventures.
