Andy, we live less than half a mile from a baseball stadium that
regularly has massive fireworks displays. They use a lot of the loud
bang type fireworks. Claire doesn't pay any attention to them. She
doesn't even react to cars that backfire less than 20 feet away, yet she
can hear me pick up a leash or open a food drawer when she is asleep in
a bedroom on the other side of the house. I would be more concerned
about a rock concert than about fireworks. Concert volumes are closer
and far more damaging to ears than the sound of fireworks explosions
that are effectively 300 to 400 yards away even at the stadium,
especially when you consider that they are exploding very high up in the
sky.
Of course, some dogs appear to be very sensitive to sharp noises. Our
pet pup shakes when she hears thunder. A previous pet pup use to crawl
into the bathtub or fireplace when she heard a car backfire, or heard
thunder in the distance.
I would never take Claire to a gun range, or to a rock concert as I feel
the volumes are simply too high, but I do take her to the ball park.
She enjoys watching the fireworks in the sky. She is a genius in crowds
and I wouldn't dream of going there with my cane instead of Claire Rose.
