[NAGDU] Let's Discuss a Real Advocacy Case

Dear All,

The intention of this thread is to help us better understand the
applicable laws and how to best be an advocate for those who need our
assistance. I only ask for citations in an effort to help everyone
understand that, unless one is an attorney, any guidance offered needs to be
supported by an authoritative source. I will comment that the FHA is not the
applicable law in this case, since the FHA governs the interactions between
tenants and landlords. The municipality is not the landlord in this case.
Furthermore, Since I was asked to offer our guidance to the animal control
officer, my opinion - or even the oipinion of an attorney - would not carry
any weight without a citation from an authoritative source document.

Fraternally yours,
Marion

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise
expectations because low expectations create barriers between blind people
and our dreams. You can live the life you want! Blindness is not what holds
you back.

I do not have the time to find citations, but I will simply state the
following:

Guide dogs are permitted in many places where dogs who are not service
animals are not allowed. This is due to the guide dog being a service
animal. It would seem to me that a similar situation would exist for a
horse that is acting as a service animal.
