'Sorry about the delay in responding, Sherrill.  The nice thing about
the Highlander Bed is that it scrunches down into a small stuff sack.
It has a loose poly-fill inside it, so while it is quite comfy on a rug,
it is a lot like down and I don't think it would give much padding on a
tile, or wood, floor.  It is quite large enough for Clair Rose at about
33 by 24 inches.  Claire is a 70 pound lab/golden.  If you are concerned
about hard floors, I would opt for their Highlands Pad, which is almost
a half inch thick with closed cell foam inside.  It folds up onto
itself, so that it is not much bigger than the Bed in its stuff sack. At
about $18 with their service dog discount, it seems pretty reasonable.
Since Claire has decided to sleep with me when we travel alone, we
haven't used it much.  She'll go to the Highlander Bed when Jacalyn and
I are together, though, and seems comfortable on it when it is on a
rug.  I'll try her out on the Bed on my office tile floor and let you
know if she likes it.

At hotels, I take one of the towels and put it down for my dog, as she is much happier even with a thin towel on the rug as opposed to nothing. But if I could pack a small comfy bed instead, I might consider that.
