Some Bhudists may think using the dog for that kind of work is not showing
compassion, too. I know a lot of animal rights people think that. It is
certainly a pioneer job she is doing and I, like you, Tracy, am glad I don't
have to do it.

As I understand it, Buddhists are supposed to treat every living thing with
compassion.  But I expect Buddhists are quite like Christians in that many
do not follow the rules their faith espouses.

She said in the article that many people do not expect blind people to live
independently.  I think that's true many places.  I have a friend who moved
to Central America.  He says that many people treat him like an alien, a
whole other kind of non-human lifeform, because he is blind and goes about
his business normally.  They just don't know how to deal with that kind of
thing.  Add an animal into the mix, and maybe it's even more
incomprehensible.

I too am glad to live in a country where someone else fought these major
battles for guide dogs a while ago, and I only have to fight an occasional
skirmish.

I think Buddhism is the dominant religion in Thailand.  
I've never had a problem with a Buddhist, but they're not real common here
in NJ.

love to meet her. What is the prominent religion in Thailand? That is likely
