[NAGDU] jail

I've taken my guides into two different prisons in California, a long time
ago. Once was to Folsom with a church singing group. The other was to san
Quentin to visit my cousin's husband who was in for drug charges. There was
absolutely no trouble from anyone about it. The prisons knew in advance that
I was coming with my dog, as we had to be approved to go in there anyway.
The prisoners we moved to tears in some cases to see a dog. One time was in
about 1980 maybe and the other time was in the early 90s.

Subject: [NAGDU] jail

Hi all,

I had a college student contact me today with an access question. She is
blind and about 50% deaf. She has a class that requires her to go along
with the class to tour a jail. This is something the university has set up.
When the jail was informed that she would be attending with her guide dog,
they said absolutely not. They said they would have to shut down the jail
if she would bring a guide dog with her. She will be with her guide dog and
her interpreter, along with the rest of the class and they still said no.
Just looking for some advice before I get back to her with what to do?

Thanks in advance, Janell and Miss Rosy
