Julie,
Wow, I can understand your frustration. I hope that you eventually are able to utilize the service.
Keep us posted!

To those who don't mind about announcing ahead of time you have a dog, losing a driver, or waiting for the next one who is willing to take your dog.

I live in a very small town, about 8,000 people. We recently got Uber here.
Huge cheers! I have been waiting a long, long time for this. However, because of the small size of my town, there aren't very many drivers. Many times when I check there are no cars at all available. That is a problem all by itself, but what if the two drivers we do have decide they don't want to take my guide dog? I can't just wait for the next car. I can't afford any access denials. It doesn't matter so much if my dog is in my profile, it's going to be obvious at least after the first trip anyway, but what happens if they stop taking my ride requests because they know I have a dog?
I'm stranded and Uber will be useless to me.

I do not have the luxury of anonymity here. I need the drivers to abide by
the law every single time, no exceptions. So far I have not used Uber,
partly because there haven't been drivers when I wanted and partly because I am afraid that even if I get the first ride I will be stranded for the return trip.

I know that sometimes we think only about where we live, our situation and our preferences, but I think it's important, especially when dealing with issues of legal enforcement, to think bigger.

Personally, I would rather the first car that takes my ride be my ride.
I would rather not waste time with a driver that finds out I have a dog, then chooses to cancel.
When I used to order taxis, I would give them that information, b/c it took too long to get another taxi.
I would just as soon not give my business to someone who is reluctant to take my dog.
Thankfully, there are enough Uber and Lyft drivers on the road in my area that it doesn't matter.

No, I don't think we are saying this at all. Most of the time drivers will discover we have dogs and will not take the call. That is the only way they could get away with it. If they take the drive and then, discovering you have a dog, they cancel, that they aren't to do. It would seem to me personally to be a problem that they have a secret profile that tells them we have a dog. I don't know what the ramifications to that would be. We'll have to see later on, but we are still involved with plotting how the settlement is going.
