[NAGDU] Keeping the dog entertained

I go in very early. My commuter bus leaves the park & ride at 0525. Before so many started working from home, we had a ridership on that bus of about 25-30. Now it may only be 2-3; this morning it was 2. I take the designated ADA seat closest to the bus door and just expect anyone else will sit an appropriate distance away.

On the trains (subway) it's early enough that things aren't crowded. I'm very good at what I call "train surfing" so I always stand. If the door I'm standing by will be in use, I cross to the opposite side of the car while we're at that stop. If I can, and I can place Astrid and myself where I'll be assured of getting an end car where there's a space for luggage, we stand there-it puts a good distance between us and others.

I use hand sanitizer after I get off every mode of transit, 2 connections in the mornings and 4 in the afternoons. I always wash my hands at every opportunity and never miss walking by a hand sanitizer wall dispenser.

When walking to/from the rail station to my office, I mentally keep track of the footsteps of others. I'm in Atlanta, so 99% of the people I encounter want nothing to do with dogs-especially GSDs, my favorite chosen breed for guide work, so I normally don't have much to worry about.

Good luck and stay safe.

Cherie

Hi Cherie.
I work for a healthcare system, so I'm "essential", too. But my whole team is working from home. How are you getting in, while still maintaining "social distancing"? When this whole thing started, I couldn't figure out how to take the commuter bus and the subway and still stay 6 feet away from other people. Not to mention staying away from them at street corners.
Tracy

B/c I work for public transit, I'm considered essential personnel. Astrid and I go to work as usual every day using 2 different systems so she's far from bored.

If I were home though, we have a nice fenced back yard, my retired guide Windy and TJ, a 10-month-old Siberian Husky pup. The 3 play together very well.

Astrid also loves to play ball and we can do that on our large deck. My neighborhood is not really walk friendly-there are no sidewalks. There is a park a couple of miles away we could go to and some trails in the area.
