Well, there is no way I wouldn't wear it. I mostly err on the side of
staying home most of the time.

I would guess that it is because there is something called "facial vision."
You feel wind currents, etc., on your face, and this is blocked. I also find
the mask slightly disorientating, but wear it anyway!
