[NAGDU] question about living with dogs

Hi Madison,

I won't be much help here, but your question made me smile, as it reminded
me of a pet dog my brother brought home when I was growing up. I don't know
what kind of a dog she was, but she was about the size of my current black
lab. She absolutely loved to lay down right in the kitchen doorway! I
tripped over her so many times, some of them pretty hard. Of course I was
much younger then and more agile and able to catch myself.

As for my current guide dog situation, I don't have a designated place for
her to stay, but she seems to sense when she is in my path, and will usually
get out of my way. The other dog we have on the other hand does not do that.
He has really long hair, and sometimes I'll step on his fur or trip over him
and make him mad. Unfortunately, not sure what to do about that. I just have
to be aware of the areas that he frequents and be mindful when in those
favored locations.

Subject: [NAGDU] question about living with dogs

Hi all,
I know I don't have a guide, but since you guys are also blind/visually
impaired I'm going to ask you guys about this since I'm sure many if not all
of you can relate. Jessie our 11-year-old spayed female Golden Retriever is
very sweet, but she loves to lay right where we're trying to walk, or just
in the middle of the floor period. Now we do have a bed for her, but it
seems that she'd much rather be in our way and be a tripping hazzard/furry
speedbump, whether that means lying in front of the fridge dorr, the pantry
dorr, right in front of the step going into the sunroom, right in front of
the back dorr on the mat or anywhere else where we might trip over her or
have to climb over her. Now the rest of my family is fully sighted and they
still trip over her, luckily no one has gotten hurt, but I worry that
someone will. So I'm curious to know when your dogs are at home or out of
harness in general, do you have a certain spot where they're trained to
stay, or do you use a cane around the house? I'm simply curious, please be
100% honest, hope you don't think I'm weird for asking such a question. Look
forward to hearing what you guys do!! Thanks Madison
