[NAGDU] Confusion Concerning Voting

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt and the mug, and still wasn't able to
vote. I contacted our national office and they are aware. Like they said,
they can't do anything about it this time, but they will investigate and try to
figure out what happened. It's just one of those glitches that didn't go as
expected. Life happens while you're busy making other plans. Joy

Hello All:
With respect to voting at our National convention, folks had to be registered
by May 31 and there was a check box asking if folks would like to vote at
convention and if that box was checked, then national did a crosscheck with
State affiliates to make sure that folks were in good standing. The way the was
done was to have all local chapters and divisions submit our membership lists
to the national office. If your information could not be verified by your State
affiliate, then voting privileges were not permitted. Also, several
announcements were made throughout the convention concerning this issue and it
was made clear on who you should contact. So, if you were a nomad and you were
inactive, then folks weren't given voting privileges. That is why it so
important to keep in contact with your chapter and division Presidents. Now,
with that said, convention is done, so there is no reason to circle back. Time
to move forward and work on our Guide Dog initiatives.
Best always:
Tina Thomas-CAGDU-President

Cindy,

I always felt that what we did at the NAGDU meeting was pretty clear. Voting at
the National convention sessions was a bit more problematic and apparently many
who did register were unable to vote. Most unfortunate.

Best Regards,

Michael Hingson

Subject: [NAGDU] Confusion Concerning Voting

Good afternoon,
It has come to my attention that I may have created more confusion than I
solved by way of my voting messages. I am sorry that this has happened, so I
will try to rectify it.
NAGDU Voting.
Hand raising voting was done. If there were phones without names attached, they
were not counted. This in no way was meant to keep people out, and we will
doubtless handle the situation differently next time.
People were asked to keep their hands raised and the counters would lower them
upon completion of the counting. Some people took exception to this method;
some may have been kicked out of the meeting and had to re-enter. That, too
would have created issues. We had not voted this way before to my knowledge, so
the voting here is actually a work in progress.
National Voting. You had to have register for the National Convention by May 31
in order to vote in the convention itself. Even if you were a NAGDU member, you
couldn't vote unless you had done so. Therefore, registering by May 31 for the
convention was a necessary component. Several of us, even though you had
registered with the convention, received a message that indicated our number
which we were using to text or call with, was not on their list. It is
something the the National Office is knowledgeable about at this time, but if
that happened, then you should let them know. There was a narrow voting window.
If you called the number too early by just seconds or too late by just seconds,
it will tell you no poll was active at the time.
I am sure Raul will write more information, but I hope this helps.
