[NAGDU] Consideration of Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and their German Shepherds

I have had both shepherds and a lab. The shepherds never left my side,
and were fine about me staying up late, but would wake me up if I fell
asleep on the sofa, as if to say, “Hey – sleeping is for beds. Go to
bed.”. One of them also used to go on occasional night-patrols through
the house to wake up roommates or family members who had fallen asleep
on sofas to send them to bed. Conversely, the lab will frequently put
himself to bed on a different floor when he’s tired and its late, or
he’ll just curl up next to a sleeping family member, rather than wake
them up to put them to bed.
Obviously others’ mileage will vary. Generally, though, my lab seems
much more chill about things not being exactly as he might want, whereas
my shepherds wanted everything done by whatever book was in their heads.
Good luck with wherever you decide to go and whatever dog you get.
