I understand several people have already recommended lights for
harness/collars. I have a reflective vest for myself and my guide dog. I
find that these are more effective because you do not know if a light has
died or the fact that there is no audio feedback for somebody who is
totally blind. I do have a light up collar but I do not use it as
frequently as the reflective vest for my dog. I think this would be a great
option for the Independence Market to sell. I got mine off of Amazon. When
I do travel with both my reflective vest and my dogs reflective vest on I
have definitely been told by passersby that we are extremely visible and
they appreciate it. I am totally blind. I typically carry the reflective
vests in my book bag for just in case moments. I also have reflective
straps I use just for very cloudy days so I am more visible. I put them on
my right side so that traffic on that side can see me more and the little
bit of reflective material on my dogs harness is just fine for just cloudy
days. This is also a great option for the independence market to sell. I
carry around a silicone collapsible bowl around with me and on the handles
are holes so I put a carabiner attached to it and so it attaches very
well to the outside of my book bag and it can dry while I walk around. I
also have a silicone collapsible bowl that is meant for smaller dogs in
my fanny pack for just in case moments when I do not have my book bag
with me.
