[NAGDU] Airlines and Dogfood

I didn't know that dogfood looks like explosives on the X-ray.  I amused myself by thinking the sniffer dogs were flagging my luggage.  "There's food in there!"

Hello Diane – I agree with others re taking a few days-worth of food in your carry-on. If your trip is longer than a few days, and the dog food you use is available online in 4 to 8 pound baghs, I would suggest calling your hotel or asking the airbnb owner about sending a package, and then ordering a bag of food to be delivered. By weighing one-day’s food and doing the math, I was able to figure out that a 4 pound bag will last me about 6 days, though your dog’s diet likely differs.

Also, I have been told by TSA employees that dog food is indistinguishable from explosives on an X-ray, so keep in mind that  TSA typically will open your carry-on and may open your checked bag if you pack it. To avoid delay and frustration in navigating the security area, I typically keep each day of food in a quart-ziploc and then put the quart bags into a larger gallon ziploc so I can pull it out and run it through the xray separately.
