Congratulations on your new and exciting milestone!

I am currently working with my seventh guide. They have all had their own preferences. In my experience, having lived in the D.C. area and advocated on the hill as part of my regular duties. There are strips of grass along the curbs and trees and bits of dirt. Just come armed with pick-up bags and a way to secret the bags until you find a trash. I will also say that I do not like taking my dog to the park across the street from the hotel. In the past you had to be careful of broken glass and needles. Of course, most of my dogs wouldn't have anything to do with the park so I had to find our spot in the area. I would recommend that you scope out and plan ahead. This will make your time much more pleasant for both you and your new partner.

Hi Jackie.  Welcome to the list!  And congratulations on your 6-month anniversary.
You have a bit of time.  Could you convince him to go on concrete?  It's not much fun, because you have to insist until he does, but it makes life much easier.  He can relieve anywhere that's available and safe, and you don't have to go hunting for grass.

Just out of curiosity, what's his name and breed?  My boy is Igloo, and he's a yellow lab/golden cross from The Seeing Eye.  He's my 8th guide dog, and our 2nd anniversary is coming up in January.

Good morning everyone! I am a new guide dog user. I got my dog from Southeastern Guide Dogs in FL even though I live in Ohio. Yesterday we celebrated 6 months as a team!

I did have a question. Is anyone going to the Washington Seminar? I’m going this year and I’m worried about having the time and a place around the senate buildings to let him relieve himself. He won’t go on concrete so I’m really worried about it. Has anyone been to the Washington Seminar before? How did you handle this???
