[NAGDU] Another traffic check

Tracy,

After all, you are truly describing most drivers in New Jersey. When Karen and I lived back there, one nice Fall day we were in downtown Westfield. I was pushing Karen's chair. We went down a curb, of course in the middle of a crosswalk, and a woman driving a station wagon came shooting down the street evidencing absolutely no intention of slowing down or stopping which she was suppose to do. I instantly pulled Karen, me and my fourth guide, Linnie, back up on the curb just as the woman shot by where we had been. There were three kids in the back seat according to Karen. What a GREAT example this driver set for her children, not.

Best Regards,

Michael Hingson

Yes, I was a bit nervous when I went for a walk today, wondering if they were going to go for #3. And Igloo was very hesitant to go around a car running in a driveway. We stopped and assessed the situation for a bit before we went around. But that's not a bad thing.

Plenty of people around here are saying there are a lot of crazy drivers out there now, people who act as if they're the only ones on the road and they're going through no matter what.

When we got to lunch Friday, my husband told me he'd been hit at that intersection. Someone started going when he was right in front of the car, and then said he didn't see my husband. He's a good-sized man; it's hard to miss him. I told him he needs an Igloo of his own. He uses a white cane, and he doesn't listen when I point out ways a dog can be helpful. I know everyone has to come to it on their own, and a dog is a real commitment, but I wish he'd think about it.

Hey, Tracy, does someone have it in for you, or what!! 😁 Good thing Igloo's a good boy and definitely on top of things! I know when that happened to me in close proximity like that, it starts to make you a little nervous for a bit.

Best,
Charlene

We got another traffic check yesterday. My husband and I decided to go out to lunch. We were crossing a busy intersection with the light, and some idiot gunned his engine and went flying in front of us. Igloo slammed on the brakes. Good boy!

2 traffic checks in 2 days. I feel like I'm back in class, except the drivers around here aren't as tuned in to their surroundings as the trainers in class. But I have no doubts now that Igloo is still sharp with traffic.

I was astonished to learn, when I was researching the white cane law in New Jersey, that it's illegal for a driver to enter a crosswalk if a blind person is crossing. I'm sure that very few drivers know that.

Tracy
