[NAGDU] Advice on Nail Grinding

I started clipping my boys claws several months after getting him because
it was too much of a hassle to get him to a groomer once a month just to
get his claws done. I have had my boy for almost 5 years now and he does
wonderful with it. I also have a grinder that a good friend gave me and I
use that every few months with clipping the months between. The grinder has
a cover on the grinding part with sizing holes for different claws which
makes it very easy. With the clipping I only take off small pieces at a
time and try to round out the claw for better growing. the clipper I bought
also came with a file so I like to file the sharp edges off which also
helps the claws grow smoothe. I still take a long time to do his claws with
the grinder so if I do not have the time or patience I will just clip them.
I put my boy on his right side and have the clipper or grinder in my right
hand which makes it easy to hold the paw in my left hand and use my right
to do the process. To keep my dog in position I do nothing special but
pushing his head back on the floor gently when he moves it because this
makes his front paws get out of line for the best comfort for the both of
us. I also like him to learn that he needs to stay still while I do this
process and he has learned it very well.
