TSE recently sent out a notice about a 30-day comment period about DOT
service animal forms required to fly.
This is the link to the PDF about it:
https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2024-04-29/pdf/2024-08820.pdf
I'm kinda waiting for TSE's comments, because the thing is not real clear to
me, even though I read it.
DOT says they propose to simplify the form by removing a couple checkboxes,
but the form included in the pdf didn't seem much simpler to me than the one
I filled out a few weeks ago.
They estimate the burden of the new form to be 20 minutes, which includes
finding it and filling it out. It took me quite a bit longer than that, and
they don't include figuring out where to upload it and getting that done.
DOT gave some statistics about the number of commentors on the new forms and
what they said. They said many people said it took longer than 15 minutes
to fill out, but didn't specify how long it took.
The new form includes instructions requiring the airlines to help people who
can't fill out the form, ad to accept a hard copy.
Anyway, this is all a bit confusing to me, but I point it out. I know there
are people here who understand it all better than I do, and I hope they will
say something about this new comment period.
