[Ncabs] Announcing the 2013 EYE Retreat

Due to rise in demand, the group leader and participant applications for
the 2013 EYE Retreat are being distributed slightly earlier this year.
We've already had several inquiries and a few ask for applications.  Only
30 slots are available!

The Envisioning Youth Empowerment Retreat is now accepting applications for
2013 Participants and Group Leaders. Click here

access the application (one application for both).  The 2013 EYE Retreat
will be Monday, July 29 to Saturday, August 3rd.  A usual, 2013 activities
include hands on demonstrations of assistive technology, career and
employment discussions, college and accommodations workshops, riding public
transit, and social time with peers.  To learn more visit our blog at

*Who should apply to attend the EYE Retreat as a participant?*

1. Any youth with a visual impairment who wants to learn more about college
and career skills, college and employment opportunities, assistive
technology, public transit, and socialization (generally participants are
age 15+).

*Who should apply to attend the EYE Retreat as a group leader?*

*Basic Qualifications:*

   1. Group leaders should be current or former college students.
   2. Group leaders should be available the entire week of the program.
   3. Group leaders should have knowledge of academic and social resources
   typically found on any college campus.
   4. Group leaders should possess leadership skills appropriate for their
   assignment.
   5. Group leaders should be knowledgeable of transition opportunities and
   difficulties for students with visual impairments.
   6. Group leaders should be able to develop and maintain appropriate
   relationships with good interpersonal communication skills.
   7. Group leaders should be able to supervise participants and
   communicate expectations effectively.
   8. Group leaders should be able to resolve conflicts, administer
   consequences, and treat all fairly.
   9. Group leaders should be able to assist with teaching or leading of
   activities.
   10. Group leaders should be able to maintain confidentiality of
   participant information.

*Selection Process for Participants and Group Leaders:*

   1. All group leaders and participants will be required to submit an
   application.
   2. The Coordinator(s) of the EYE Retreat will review each application
   when it is received. Those who are selected will be contacted for a quick
   phone interview.
   3. Group Leaders should also have available two references at the time
   of their phone interview.
