Subject: [State-affiliate-leadership-list] Greetings from The national Federation of the blind of Nevada
Greetings National Federation of the Blind of Nevada Members, friends, and Supporters,
As we enter into November, I am filled with gratitude as I reflect on the great work we have done in the Federation here in Nevada this last year. At exactly this time last year, we were preparing for our 2017 State Convention which was held at the Embassy Suites in Las Vegas. Last month, we orchestrated a fabulous 2018 State Convention at the Nugget in Sparks, with a record number of registered convention attendees of 60 federationists, friends, and vendors. Since the 2019 NFB National convention will be held in Las Vegas July 7 - 12, the board voted to return to Northern Nevada for our 2019 State Convention next fall. I would like to give a public thank you to Bill Salzgeber and his volunteers from the JW Group. We are grateful for your generosity, kindness, and friendship. We hope to have your group back in 2019.
Please join me in congratulating the newly elected NFB of Nevada Board of Directors.
President, Terri Rupp
Vice President, Mark Tadder
Treasurer, Chun Chao
Secretary, Frida Aizenman,
Board Member 1, Regina Mitchell
Board Member 2, Thomas Kearns
Board Member 3, Dorah Uchel
Take a look at www.nfbnevada.org <http://www.nfbnevada.org> to learn a little more about our new Vice President, as he is our featured Member of the Month.
October flew by with the blink of an eye. Along with kicking off Meet the Blind Month with our NFB of Nevada State Convention, the Northern and Southern Nevada Chapters both participated in local community outreach events passing out Braille alphabet cards and sharing the message that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. The Northern Nevada Chapter hosted a table at the NNCIL Pumpkinpalozza. The Southern Nevada Chapter hosted tables at the CCFD Community Fire Station Open House, and the Blind Center of Nevada White Cane Day Celebration.
We are teaming up with Lyft to get our members to get out and vote. If you are a blind person in Nevada, please send an email to MTadder at gmail.com <mailto:MTadder at gmail.com> to take advantage of the first come first serve $15 Lyft credit to get you to the polls.
Are you interested in attending the 2019 NFB Washington Seminar, where we and our fellow federationists meet with our law makers on Capital Hill? Submit your application by the November 17th deadline. You can find the application on our www.nfbnevada.org <http://www.nfbnevada.org> site along with other announcements.
If you have received a free white cane from the NFB since the Free Cane program began 10 years ago, we hope our love and generosity has helped you in living the life you want. We invite you to join us at our next local chapter meetings, follow us on Facebook, and share with us how you too remove obstacles, raise expectations, and live the life you want. The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
