Hey guys,

Feel free to ask me any questions. If you want, I can also put you in contact with Hardy Holm, who told me about the bill a couple days ago. I've already checked with professors and such and gotten things worked out, and I will be there on Tuesday to support this bill!

Hey guys,

Here is a message from our state president about a bill that has been
introduced in Nebraska. This has the potential to really change things in
Lincoln, as well as across the state. Please, please, please come out on
Tuesday in support of the bill, particularly if you live in Lincoln. If you
can't attend the hearing, I urge you to call the members of the committee
and tell them that you are in favor of the bill.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or Jeremy Fifield, who
has been following this fairly closely.

Thanks,

Karen

Greetings Fellow Federationists:

This is a call for action for help with LB889. This legislation seeks to
change provisions relating to rates, fares, and certificates of convenience
and necessity for taxicabs. Our friend, Senator Bill Avery is the sponsor of
this bill.

If you are frustrated with public transportation in this state, then you'll
want to give this one your utmost attention.

A hearing on LB889 is scheduled Tuesday, January 31st at 1:30 PM in Room
1113.

I urge you to contact the senators on the Transportation and
Telecommunications Committee (listed at the bottom of this message after the
bill summary of intent) and urge them to support this legislation.

One Hundred Second Legislature - Second Session - 2012

Introducer's Statement of Intent

LB889

The following constitutes the reasons for this bill and the purposes which
are sought to be

accomplished thereby:

LB 889 defines taxicab carrier for the purpose of delineating from it common
carriers of

household goods under Section 75-119(6).

LB889 exempts taxicab carrier applicants in cities of the metropolitan or
primary class from

demonstrating a present or future public convenience or necessity during the
application

process.

LB889 directs the Public Service Commission to prescribe the maximum rate of
service, but

no taxicab carrier shall be restricted from advertising, promoting, billing
or charging a lesser

rate for services.

Principal Introducer: ________________________________

Senator Bill Avery

This bill is being considered by the Transportation and Telecommunications
