Join Us for the Spring Audible Bird Walk – May 18, 2025
Dear Members and Friends,
Spring has arrived, and so have the birds! We’re excited to invite you to one of our most joyful and unique annual traditions: the National Federation of the Blind of Nevada, Northern Chapter Spring Audible Bird Walk.
Date: Sunday, May 18, 2025
Time: 8:00 AM – Approximately 10:30 AM
Location: Oxbow Nature Study Area, Reno, NV (East entrance off Dickerson Road)
This event is all about tuning in to the sounds of nature. We’ll be walking about a mile on a flat, accessible trail, identifying birds not by sight, but by their calls, songs, chirps, and every other fascinating sound they make. It’s migration season along the Sierra Nevada Flyway, which means the area will be teeming with species—from hummingbirds and thrushes to hawks and owls. It’s truly not an event to be missed!
We’ll wind up at a peaceful meadow with benches and plenty of bird activity, thanks to recent improvements that have made the trail even more accessible—no rock-hopping required!
As always, after the walk we’ll gather for brunch just down the street at a wonderful local restaurant. It’s a chance to relax, share what we heard, and enjoy great company.
We’re once again partnering with the Lahontan Audubon Society, and a sign-up email will be sent out soon. Whether you’re a returning participant or trying it for the first time, you just might discover a lifelong love for birding that’s been waiting to take flight.
Looking forward to hearing with you out there,
Mark Tadder
President, National Federation of the Blind of Nevada, Northern Chapter
