Highlights:
We are interested in highly motivated candidates with skills in human
computer interaction, collaboration, social software, and decision
making to solve critical technological problems for our Government
sponsors and enhance the user experience in Government systems and
experimental prototypes. We are especially interested in candidates
with nonvisual accessibility and assistive technology experience. *
Qualified applicants from the blind and low vision community are
encouraged to apply.*
Key Functions:
* Assist MITRE and government sponsors in solving
accessibility and usability challenges, including enterprise
remediation efforts, integrating commercial accessibility solutions
into a government environment.
* Perform evaluation and testing: accessibility testing,
usability testing, heuristic evaluation, and other HCI methods;
performing market surveys.
* Work independently and in a team to conduct
accessibility/usability evaluations and develop accessible
alternatives to problems.
* Use software engineering best practices to develop
prototypes for customers, integrate commercial accessibility solutions
or develop new solutions, and for customize COTS or open source
software.
* User centered design: understanding people's current work practices
and user needs, gathering requirements, leading the development of
prototypes, iterating design with users
* Participate in working groups to discuss accessibility
issues and solutions
* Make recommendations for acquiring or implementing
decision making, collaborative and assistive tools
* Knowledge of the academic state of the art for decision making,
collaborative systems and assistive technology
* Working knowledge of rapid prototyping tools for UI mockups
* Ability to document work, produce and brief
presentations, and write technical reports and papers for publication,
as needed
Required Skillsets:
* Currently pursuing a BS or MS in accessibility, human
factors, human computer interaction, computer science, or a related
technical field.
* Academic records of excellence including a 3.0 or higher GPA.
* Basic understanding of WCAG, accessible development
practices, applying accessibility to agile development, and nonvisual
accessibility and assistive technology.
* User centered design, usability testing experience,
and/or Software design, development experience
* Intermediate experience in software engineering or testing, and a
desire to increase accessibility knowledge; or a background in
assistive technology, accessibility testing or coding.
Preferred Skillsets:
* Completed 2+ years towards undergraduate degree towards a BS in
accessibility, human factors, human computer interaction, computer
science, or a related technical field.
* Intermediate experience with nonvisual accessibility and assistive technology.
