Braille Screen Input: Type faster, practice Braille

This workshop is recommended for anyone who uses a touchscreen phone or tablet and knows at least a little Braille. We're based in NYC but anyone is welcome, including Blind and visually impaired people, professionals in the blindness field and other allies.

If you'd like to hear about our other upcoming workshops, just email heiskelltech+subscribe at googlegroups.com and reply to the email that comes back. Please email chanceyfleet at nypl.org to inquire about one-on-one coaching, suggest a workshop or volunteer your time.

Braille screen input lets you type in six-dot Braille on your touchscreen. Like all digital Braille, you can decide whether to turn on contractions, so typing Braille is a great way to practice at home, even if you're new. You can use braille screen input to type much faster than you might using the standard QWERTY onscreen keyboard, because once you've calibrated your finger positions, you never need to hunt for a letter. Join us for an hour of exploration and troubleshooting. We'll cover how to turn on and use Braille input on iOS and Android.
