Meeting Minutes: Chapter at Large


DATE: Tuesday, August 17, 2021

MEMBERS PRESENT: Tanya VanHouten, Jimmy Sparks, Kelly Robson, Donavon
Cavender, Larry Wayland, Dick Walker, Donna Walker, Orville Toothman,
Irma Nelson,

VISITORS: Susan Anderson, Freddy Wilkey

The meeting was called to order by Chapter President, Tanya VanHouten
at 7:33 p.m. She began with a call of the role and introduction of
visitors. Welcome Susan Anderson. Donna shared the sad news that one
of our frequent visitors, and a member of the River Valley Chapter
Freddy Wilkey, lost his father last Saturday. Tanya continued with the
NFB Pledge and the Pledge of Allegiance.

MOTION: Made by Dick Walker and seconded by Kelly Robson to approve
the July Minutes as sent out by Donna. Motion passed.

MOTION: Made by Orville and seconded by Donavon to accept the July
Treasurer’s report as sent by Susie. Motion passed.

OLD BUSINESS
Chapter Constitution: Tanya reviewed the changes in our chapter
constitution that were suggested by the committee. Some of these were
necessary updates and others suggested by the national office.
Discussion followed. MOTION: Made by Dick and seconded by Jimmy Sparks
to forward the revised At-Large Chapter constitution to the State
Affiliate Board for approval. Motion passed.

State Convention: Tanya sent request to Pettit gene Meats for donation
of a gift box but has had no reply. Kelly suggested trying one more
time. Dick wondered if we should just purchase a gift certificate if
we don’t get a reply as time is getting short. With all of the
pandemic shortages, may not get a donation this year. We will vote at
next meeting about what we are donating to the auction at State
Convention.

Meat Sticks: Don’t forget ongoing fundraiser for Country Meats.

NEW BUSINESS
Nominations Committee: Jimmy asked if Tanya needed to appoint anyone
from At-Large to serve on the nominating committee. Donavon reports
that he is on both the nominations and resolutions committees. Please
contact him with any suggestions or questions on either.

State Convention: Jimmy reports that you can now register for 2021
State Convention on the website: www.nfbar.org.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
NFB Arkansas Board meeting, September 14, 8:00 p.m. on Arkansas Zoom.
DSB Quarterly Board Meeting: September 10, 1:00 p.m. on Zoom.
Last Day: to register for State Convention is: September 20.
State Convention: October 29-31. (Virtual)

Discussion: About transportation difficulties experienced by blind
people with regard to the pandemic. Using public transit, get
somewhere and they are closed and you have to wait for return ride
until pick-up time, Irma suggests calling ahead like bank, etc. Donna
mentioned difficulty with rides who are not vaccinated and people
constantly being exposed or quarantined, etc. Makes already difficult
transportation problems worse.)
