If you happen to have a craftsy.com membership, I am currently listening 
to a class on sewing knits (stretchy fabric).

I am just getting to the parts of actually sewing, so I can't answer 
your question, but yes, you need thread to match your material and you 
need to use stitches designed for stretchy fabric.
