[NFB-Blind-Crafters] Counting crochet

Tracy, whatever works. Last night I taught a class and forgot stitch
markers. I used a safety pin. A gal in my class used a paper clip. At least
with real stitch markers they don't get caught in the thread of the yarn.
Normally you put stitch markers at repeats of the pattern on the rows and
the last stitch of the row. Then you know for sure it is time to turn.

So, do you use what I think are called locking stitch markers? The kind
that open and close?
When you come to one, do you open it up, move it up a row, and close it up
again?
Or is there some other way?

Crochet types like stitch markers also.
Warm smile.

I can count some in crochet, but how do you count a lot? Like, if I have a
knitting row of 100 stitches, I put a marker every 20 stitches, so I never
have to count more than 20. But I don't think I can do that in crochet.
So, if I have 100 stitches, how do I make sure I'm not getting off track,
without doing a whole lot of counting?
