[NFB-Braille-Discussion] a question for anyone using the NLS braille Ereader.

>From what I can tell, the password field is definitely expecting contracted braille, and the default is UEB. I am not sure how one would know, though, if the asterisk was the problem. As is the case with any back-translation, one has to follow the rules more closely than if one is just writing contracted braille for one's own use. In our case, I did successfully enter a password using UEB, but it didn't involve an asterisk. I am not sure if there is any way to see the back-translated version on the e-reader, but if the user has a note-taker that uses UEB, typing the password into a document and back-translating it by printing it to a file or something would provide a way to see if the results are what is expected. Also, sharing the password privately with somebody who knows UEB well would be another approach. Finally, the kind of weird combinations that we have to use for passwords nowadays could hit a bug in the back-translator. It is probably going to be hard to resolve without knowing the password, and obviously it should not be shared on a list like this.

Is the password checker expecting print or braille? If print perhaps the
backtranslation from UEB is incorrect. If so, perhaps using the old
computer braille (ASCII Braille) where where dots-16 is an asterisk and
doesn't require backtranslation would work.
