Dear all,
Very much looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the convention!! I know that many will not be able to make the committee meeting this Wednesday because of other commitments or not being able to be at the convention. We will miss you, but you can still be involved—see below.
Attached is the meeting agenda, and thanks so much to those who helped put this together. Also, I have two asks:
1. The museum of the Blind People’s Movement has a table-top exhibit
at the convention which is focused on braille. It could use a few “talking signs” on Thursday and Saturday from 5-7 PM to help make people aware of its presence, and I said I would check with our committee. Is there anyone from this committee, or anyone you know, who could do a one-hour shift as a talking sign, from either 5-6 or 6-7 on Thursday or Saturday? Send me an email at jennifer.dunnam1829 at gmail.com if you or someone you know can do this.
2. Based on some of the ideas people shared earlier this year about
how we might create something lasting as part of the celebrations of 200 years of braille, I have a proposal that I wonder what you folks think of.
It could involve people all over the country and would show the breadth of the ways we use braille today. What do you think of a video collage—of five seconds or so per video, of people doing things involving braille? Cooking in the kitchen; leading a meeting; reading a sign in a building; flipping through a vinyl record collection; using a knitting pattern; reading a book outside; playing games; examining a tactile map; taking notes; the possibilities are endless, and I am sure you all could come up with good ideas for things that would be interesting in a short video. We would need to come up with guidelines for lighting, orientation, and what-not, and once we had that we could have people submit them. There could be narration that briefly describes each, along with an introduction and conclusion. We could set a goal to have it done in time for Blindness Equality Achievement Month. All opinions/concerns welcome re this proposal, and if you like it and have talents in editing videos together like this (or know someone who
does) please let us know that, too.
Looking forward to your thoughts.
The meeting agenda is attached in Word and BRF. I look forward to seeing many of you there!
Best,
Jennifer Dunnam
