Hi, Haben and Paul!

Nice to meet you!

Haben, no, I no longer work for Handtype Press, though I still serve as a
consultant. They published my chapbook of poems, called Suddenly Slow.

The second book is Deaf American Poetry: An Anthology, which was released
last week by Gallaudet University Press. That's the book Ii am busy
promoting right now. Next week I am flying to New York to give a series of
presentations and sell the book.

You'll be interested in knowing that I am working on an international book
of writings by deaf-blind writers since Sanzan Tani.

Ah, sociology! That's right down my alley! One of the presentations Ii am
giving next week is called "How to Really Have the Best of Both Worlds:
Identity and Social Power." I'll be discussing some sociology in that one,
drawing some ideas from Goffman, Janeway, and Collins.

One of my favorite poets, Stafford, taught at Lewis and Clark and also at
Reed. And the woman who is responsible for the Rochester part of my trip
graduated from Lewis and Clark--Karen Christie, who teaches writing, ASL,
and Deaf Studies at RIT and NTID. I am looking forward to meeting her in
person for the first time.

Hey, do you happen to know Andria Ferree?

John

Dear John,

Nice to meet you! My name is Haben and I am a student at Lewis & Clark
College in Portland, Oregon. I'm studying sociology and anthropology at
the moment. Though deafblind since early childhood, I'm very new to the
deafblind community. I just joined a Deaf-Blind group in Oregon.

I've actually heard of you before. I came across yorr name when buying a
book from Handtype Press. Do you still work as an editor there? What are
your two books?

Best,
Haben
