[nfb-db] PDF Documents and JAWS

Dear list here is the solution that I normally use in this situation. First of all I'm assuming that the PDF document is not in a secure, or protected format. If it is not either one of these formats then you can use the Adobe reader the current version is 11.1. What you do is you open the document by using the Adobe reader that has the assistive devices panel enabled in the setup of the application after you install it. Then what you can do is export as text and then paste the document into everything from notepad, to Microsoft Word. And that should enable you to read the document. On the other hand if the document is in a protected format then you will have to read it in the Adobe reader itself. And unfortunately you won't be able to send it to either open book or curse filed either. Of course someone mentioned to me at to either open book or Kurzweil if it is not protected but my experience has been that this only works with documents that are not too complex. If anyone has anymore questions just feel free to ask? Now for anyone who is a Mac user on this list handling PDFs is somewhat easier and sometimes can be more difficult. Although there is the preview application on the Mac. One can also use a free pizza software called skim. And it acts much like the Adobe reader application does in Windows. Like that other application, you can highlight all of the text in a non protected document and copy it into the word processor of your choice. What I normally do is place that animate text to edit the document. And this seems to work very well for me. Hope this helps?
