Hello Cathy
Thank you for inviting me, and I would love to join,
but I don't know how, I guess you can send me an
application or you can email, and yes! I would love to tell my story, and hopefully I will, and yes! I want to do more, I am curious to know more about
the security and equality, and how can I help with that.
I would like to meet scott davert and ask him my
questions.
I will await your response.

Subject: [nfb-db] answers for Betty Banks

Dear Betty:

Thank you for posting your excellent questions. I’m not sure what
HKNC does in terms of advocacy, but its mission seems to be education
and information. Scott Davert can better describe HKNC’s focus, since
he works there. However, the NFB is a national organization of actual
blind people who have been advocating for security, equality, and
opportunity for all blind persons since 1940. This is the unique role
in which the NFB excels.

Please ask Scott about HKNC’s role as advocate. The deaf-blind
resolution was a first-time effort on the part of the NFB Deaf-Blind
Division. It was only a first step on the way to Congress. The
resolution represents the NFB’s commitment to a specific direction as
it continuously grows and changes with the needs of blind people in
our society. Our society is constantly changing, and new issues are
constantly emerging. A new idea, such as the decision to write this
resolution, took a long time to implement. Through the hard work of
Joe Naulty (sp?) and Janice Toothman, the resolution was drafted. As
Janice explained, its passage within the NFB was contingent upon some
further revisions. Far from being overlooked as a potential
Congressional issue, it now takes its place among the many issues
needing consideration for future Washington seminars. Only three are
selected each year. From the many important issues faced by blind
people.

I hope this helps to answer your questions. I hope that you will tell
us your own story here, as we care deeply about the lives of our
brothers and sisters.. We would love for you to join us in our
movement toward a brighter future for the deaf-blind.

Cathy Miller
